Toward Better Surface Tracking for Fluid Simulation
Abstract
Representing moving surfaces as polygonal meshes offers a unique set of advantages as well as challenges. In his dissertation, the author attempted to address several of the difficulties traditionally associated with explicit surface tracking. In later research, he and his colleagues sought to address one of the main challenges in incorporating an explicit surface tracker into an existing Eulerian fluid simulation system: the potential for resolution mismatch between the surface and the simulation. This article discusses issues of numerical robustness in geometric queries when dealing with moving explicit surfaces and summarizes the work by other researchers that has been undertaken concurrently and subsequently to the author’s dissertation work.
