AI Innovation takes Center Stage at AU 2024
AI-driven prototypes for streamlined 3D shape creation, character animation featured during day one keynote at AU
AU 2024, Autodesk’s Design and Make Conference, kicked off yesterday with a keynote from CEO Andrew Anagnost. Andrew’s discussion focused heavily on AI and Autodesk’s commitment to using the technology to drive efficiency gains, augment creativity, and bring more structure to data with AI.
“We want Autodesk AI to help you with the practical things, the small things that help you do your job,” said Andrew.
Touching on AEC, manufacturing and design, and media and entertainment industries, Andrew discussed the transformative impact of AI as a driver of innovation and invention, helping solve the things that can hold creators back.
Autodesk Research projects also featured in the keynote when Andrew shared an update on Project Bernini, a proof of concept for generative AI 3D shape creation. During the presentation, Andrew highlighted how Autodesk is exploring potentially moving the Bernini prototype from concept to the company’s manufacturing cloud to help designers do more analysis during the conceptual design phase.
Neural Motion Control, a prototype which enables animators to direct a character’s actions using a handful of keyframes and a neural network, also featured in the keynote. This prototype will save animators significant time, while maintaining the low-level control they are used to, enabling them to focus on crafting the character’s unique performance.
