Autodesk Research Blog – Our Year in Review
Celebrating some of our biggest news and top stories of 2024
As we recently shared, this was once again a big year for our Autodesk Research teams. From publishing papers and speaking at conferences around the world, to unveiling a research effort for Generative AI 3D shape creation, our teams contributed to Autodesk’s design and make platform for today and into the future. Take a walk with us down memory lane as we celebrate some of our top blog posts of the year.
From Keynotes to Art Installations – Autodesk Research Sizzled at AU 2024: Our Autodesk Research teams played a significant role in the success of AU 2024 – Autodesk’s annual Design and Make conference. Autodesk Research projects featured in keynotes, AI was on display with art installations designed by Researchers, and our teams participated in workshops and presentations.
Exploring Carbon-Negative Materials – Autodesk Research’s Path to Net-Zero Buildings: This three-part series explored the impact of AECO on climate change, options for more sustainable building and learnings from past conferences, and AI innovations to help transform sustainable design and construction.
Autodesk Research Residency Program teams shared their work in the blog and at AU. Kit Switch shared how they work with Autodesk to bring efficiencies to design and make by creating modular interiors for sustainable building reuse. Residents CalWave and Aloft both exhibited at AU, sharing more about their sustainability and carbon neutrality projects.
Autodesk Research Turns Vision into Reality with Fully Fabricated Droid: Autodesk and Lucasfilm hosted a Droid Maker contest, inviting candidates to design the droid of their dreams to celebrate the latest Star Wars release, The Acolyte. Our team brought the droid to life, using machines and software in three of our Technology Centers.
Project Reframe – A Leap into VR Motion Capture and Editing: Autodesk Research invited creators to participate in Project Reframe, a proof-of-concept for recording and editing motion in Virtual Reality.
Our Research teams spoke at events around the country and around the world. Autodesk Researchers led a three-day workshop at ROB|ARCH to create a sci-fi masterpiece using robots, demoed Project Reframe in Colombia, and further explored the impact of AI within the media and entertainment industry at SIGGRAPH, among other industry events.
The Problem of Generative Parroting – Navigating Toward Responsible AI: This three-part series explored some of the concerns and challenges with data parroting in Generative AI. Part one examined trust concerns, part two explored challenges of achieving complete avoidance of parroting and highlighted areas for research in this space, and part three shared approaches for detecting generative parroting for more ethical and responsible AI use.
Highlights from our Interns – What They Loved about their Internships: Autodesk Research once again welcomed a talented team of interns to work on projects over the summer. Read what they most enjoyed about their working with us.
We look forward to sharing more stories next year; in the meantime have a happy holiday season!
